Points of Information for School Administrators :

• Isolate the system in question and secure it promptly.
• Do Not allow your IT personnel to search the system and disturb the evidence.  The actions of IT staff will pollute the time line of files which are needed to tie the activity back to person(s) alleged to be involved in the incident, and hinder your investigation.
• If the activity has the potential to be criminal, notify your local law enforcement agency immediately.
• Have any persons involved in the discovery and notification of the incident provide a written report documenting their observations and actions.
• Have your IT staff secure any logs which may further confirm evidence of the activity alleged.
• If the activity alleged involves IT staff who may have advanced skills please call for guidance on how best to proceed.
• The early stages of your investigation can make or break your case.  A systematic and organized approach will help ensure the protection of vital evidence and the retrieval of such by qualified forensic examiners for any HR civil, or criminal proceeding that may follow.
